The SEMAFO Foundation is currently working on the development and the monitoring of many projects.

We continue our work at the level of education through participation in the construction of schools, including latrines, equipment, and even school supplies for these schools. In addition, we focus on income generating projects and skill development by supporting local crafts and trade training, as well as funding health projects impacting women.

PAPRIKA PROJECT

Income generated by the project between 2011 and 2014: $1,493,420

This project aims to promote the cultivation of paprika, a cash crop, and to support the processing and marketing of paprika to develop income-generating activities for women in rural areas.

MARKET GARDENING PROJECT

Community vegetable gardens are aimed at providing food self-sufficiency to inhabitants. They are an effective way to fulfill the nutritional needs of the region and for producers to obtain additional income by selling their surplus.

Construction of 46 latrines for 11 shcools (2016-2017)

In its contribution to meeting the MDGs (Millennium Development Goals) and since October 2015 to meeting the SDGS (Sustainable Development Goals), SEMAFO Foundation aims primarily to enhance school enrolment, improve success rates and the quality of education. This should lead to a sustainable improvement of school life and an expansion and upgrading of school facilities.

SCHOOL KITS PROJECT

57,944 kits distributed in Burkina Faso since 2009

The Foundation has been distributing school kits to elementary school students since 2010. Distributed supplies are all required and adapted to the child’s level of education; each kit includes notebooks, a slate, chalk, pens, pencils, coloring pencils, a geometry set, a pencil case, an eraser and a ruler.

SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM

144,133 meals were served to 3005 students in 14 schools (2016-2017)

Initially in partnership with the Paul Gerin-Lajoie Foundation, school canteens were set up in the Wona A and B schools to allow 600 children and their teachers to have a meal provided every day, five days a week. In 2012, the SEMAFO Foundation extended the project to the Bana A and B schools in Burkina Faso and in 2013 to the College of Bossey Bangou in Niger.

BICYCLE PROJECT

The bicycle project was launched because the SEMAFO board of directors and management team wished to make a difference in the communities supported by the SEMAFO Foundation.

MULTIFUNCTIONAL PLATEFORM PROJECT (MFPP)

A MFP is an energy infrastructure used to grind grain, grind shea nuts, husk rice, charge batteries, weld etc. By bringing energy to the heart of the village, the MFP free women and girls up from domestic tasks that usually consume a lot of their time and energy. Instead, they can focus on income-generating activities or on their schooling.

FRESH-WATER WELL PROJECT

Populations are guided in hygiene, sanitation and activities offering an improved quality of life. In addition to directly investing in school infrastructure, SEMAFO Foundation ensured water was brought in schools by drilling drinking water wells equipped with Volonta or India MK II pumps in villages and elementary schools.

“THE BIG CARAVAN OF JOY” PROJECT
