The phenomenon is linked to the growing demand for good-quality meat concurrent with the population growth in urban areas. Demand spikes around the religious holiday periods (Tabaski, Christmas, etc.).

HYGIENE AND FERTILIZATION PROJECT

The hygiene and fertilization section is a multisectoral sustainable development project, as it takes into account the aspects of sanitation, environment, productivity and social cohesion. Inspired by the successful experience of the KOASSANGA Association in the locality of Barkouytenga, this project was carried out for the displaced households of the Boungou mine in the Eastern region.

GRAIN BANK PROJECT

Since May 15, 2010, the SEMAFO Foundation has been helping people of the region of Balé and Mouhoun in the production and marketing of sesame. For various reasons, sesame prices vary enormously. The overall objective of the warrantage is to fight against poverty and food insecurity.

CROCHET LESSONS PROJECT
Burkina Faso: in activity
Chantal Guérin, director of the SEMAFO Foundation, visited several women’s groups in order to train them to pick mats from recycled milk bags. These mats made from Canadian milk bags are thicker and the plastic is specially designed to stay fresh and repel insects. Women appreciate it a lot for these reasons. Once woven, the mats are very comfortable, especially compared to the dirt floor on which children usually sleep.

The SEMAFO Foundation, anxious to support job creation, took advantage of the scarcity of dressmakers in the Eastern region to set up a Couture project. Before, the opportunity of the installation of the Boungou mine and the needs in uniform of the company, the opportunity was to seize.

CEREAL BANK PROJECT
Burkina Faso: in activity
Women often face difficulties in accessing credit because they do not have a guarantee from institutions working in the field. Yet, they have crops that could be used to access these credits, provided that these crops are stored in good conditions and duly recorded by the credit institution. Thus was born the will to set up a bank of cereals to store the crops in order to have a guarantee to access this credit.

POULTRY-RAISING PROJECT
Burkina Faso: in activity
The first poultry project is Somona (20 women beneficiaries) started in September 2016 with the construction of a henhouse, the purchase of 1,000 chicks, accessories and food, vaccines and training. The latter has very appreciable results in terms of poultry quality and acquisition of markets.
