SEWING CENTRES PROJECT
Burkina Faso: in activity
The SEMAFO Foundation, anxious to support job creation, took advantage of the scarcity of dressmakers in the Eastern region to set up a Couture project. Before, the opportunity of the installation of the Boungou mine and the needs in uniform of the company, the opportunity was to seize. The goal of this project is not only to provide clothing for the mine, but to continue after the mine closes. This job creation opportunity will therefore provide long-term income throughout the life cycle of the plant and also after closure by creating clothing for the people of the surrounding villages.
This will allow for an increase in tailors’ income, the empowerment of beneficiaries and the transfer of skills to other young people thereafter.
The ceremony of laying the foundation stone for the first sewing center took place on September 27, 2016 in the village of Boungou. This fully equipped center allowed 12 people with sewing bases to first make outfits for workers for the mine in Boungou. (see Specialized Training project)
