Burkina Faso: in activity
Niger: Project completed in 2014
Fobiri schoolgirl, Alima Sere must travel 17 km a day to get to the CEG (College of General Education) in Wona, Burkina Faso.
The bicycle project was launched because the SEMAFO board of directors and management team wished to make a difference in the communities supported by the SEMAFO Foundation. The money raised by the directors and senior management of SEMAFO is used to buy bikes that are granted on the basis of merit criteria, to women, children and men of our area of interest. The criteria used for the year 2012-2013 were the vulnerability, poverty, distance children have to travel to school, academic performance, and involvement in development projects (commitment, organization, participation, cohesion and teamwork). Since 2013, the Foundation supports struggling students and the most deserving.
- Number of bicycles distributed since 2013: 245 (as at 30 June 2016)
- 92 bikes in 2015-2016
- 60 bikes in 2015-2016
- 55 bikes in 2013-2014
- 39 bikes in 2012-2013 (20 Burkina Faos and 19 Niger)
